The point and click gameplay was simple and easy to use, if not a little repetitive. I will note that this is obviously a loop and not intended to be watched for a long time, but it was a breathtaking backdrop nonetheless. And speaking of which, they have a quirky way of showing their stunning views – there are multiple locations to be discovered where you can sit down and sketch the scenery where the camera angle changes so you can truly enjoy the vistas and see what is being drawn by Edward. The graphics in this game are spectacular in places, looking like they have come straight out of a painting. You open the game rowing to shore across a very scenic fjord. That being said, I felt that the developers could have fleshed out the storyline a little further to make the game a little longer and more engaging. I did find that the game was quite short however, there is obviously complexity in having a lengthy ame with very little person-to-person interaction. The game menu features a traditional Scandinavian-sounding tune which is hauntingly beautiful to hear and is a prominent feature compositionally.

The music is noteworthy by award-winning composer Simon Poole (who also composed for the Dreamfall series). That design lends itself to the one collectible set that is in the game. The buildings, the pathways, and design really capture what was once a place that would not look out of place on an idyllic postcard. The reason for the feud and Edward’s own search are two separate stories, but the themes of family, relationships, and death all intertwine.ĭraugen is not a hard game and you are encouraged to explore the small village to understand its background. Graavik is a village torn apart with Edward and Alice arriving in the aftermath of a feud that has lasted decades. It is a tricky subject to discuss or represent within video games, but a decent attempt seems to have been made here, even though it can be a bit over the top later on.ĭraugen’s story unfolds rather quickly, but if you really pay attention to the game’s environment and the actions of the characters you’ll be able to guess a few of the plot reveals before they happen. Edward as a character gets too bogged down by this attitude in the early stages, making it slightly harder to muster sympathy for him later on as the Draugen launches into exploring mental health.
